The rumor mill spins again as Plaxico Burress in a radio interview expressed his desire to be in Charlotte this season. He says the Panthers have not yet contacted him, but that didn’t stop him from elaborating about the team.
Earlier posted by ESPN, Burress said in the interview with WFNZ in Charlotte, “Not just that (in reference to his family being close-by if he came here), but playing with Cam, who I think is one of the top five quarterbacks in all of football, and as long as I can remember, Steve Smith has been one of my favorites. I just think it’s a great situation.” He continued to discuss what he hopes will happen during the free agent process. “I just want to put myself in a position to go out and have success and to make the guys around me better and obviously play with a quarterback who can really play the position,” Burress said. “It’s just about me picking my spots and seeing where I’m a good fit. You just look at a situation like Carolina. You can’t come across a better situation than that.”
In reality, how could Carolina not be an ideal situation? You have a very talented QB, three of the best backs in the NFL in Williams, Stewart and Tolbert, a class act and veteran in Steve Smith, a consistent TE in Greg Olsen, and a defense that is ready to explode? Plaxico Burress would be a perfect fit at the #2 WR position, and make Panther fans look back to the Muhsin Muhammad days when our only trip to the Super Bowl occurred. This is a great opportunity for management to solidify the already dangerous offense as one of, if not the best, in the NFL.
