Catch This: NFC WRs “TPD Ratings”

Calvin Johnson – 99.25 – What can I say that hasn’t been said about Megatron? He’s an athletic freak with the size and speed combination to burn or go over the top of the best cornerback in the world. Oh yea and he saved Cam to trouble of the supposed Madden curse. There was no disagreement from our panel that he deserves the top spot in our ranking.

Larry Fitzgerald – 97 – Fitzy lands at number 2 on our list despite a down season in 2011. Dealing with the combo of Kevin Kolb and John Skelton will even hurt an elite level wide receivers numbers so we gave him a pass but hopefully this isn’t the new trend.

Steve Smith – 94.75 – Checking in at #3 is the Panthers own, #89. Due to a career renovation last season, thanks to Cam Newton, and some hard work Smitty shot back up to the top of the wide receiver ranks. He still has the speed to burn corners deep and is hungry week in and week out.

Greg Jennings – 92.5 – One guy who might find himself even higher on this list in the years to come to Greg Jennings. Constantly being found open by Aaron Rodgers has shot the Western Michigan product out of the roof. He his the centerpiece in a precise aerial attack and is necessary to its success. When he was hurt towards the end of the season the Packers went on to lose the next game breaking up their perfect season.

Marques Colston – 92 – Another NFC South receiver shows up here with Marques Colston, the newly paid former 7th round pick. Colston has the size and speed combo of a top level wide receiver and with unsigned qb Drew Brees throwing to him his numbers will continue to be high.

Brandon Marshall – 91.5 – The first conference newcomer to the list is Brandon Marshall who made the change from South Beach to Chicago (gooooood choice…). But in reality the move could be good for his game. Hooking back up with former teammate Jay Cutler will help and being the main receiver around a bunch of nobodies in a new offense should lead to big catch and yard totals.

Roddy White – 91 – Another divisional wide receiver makes the list as Roddy White checks in just above 90. White is a good receiver and has put up numbers although he sports a higher than average drop total. Also with Julio Jones hot on his trail on the depth chart White could be looking for a new team sooner rather than later. He’s in the Top 10 for 2012 but that could change come next year.

Victor Cruz – 90.75 – Cruz is the surprise pick of the group as he has ascended from an unknown small school slot receiver to one of the main reasons the Giants are Super Bowl champions. No one could stop Cruz last season which earned him his spot on this list.

Vincent Jackson – 90.5 – #9 on the list is a fourth division-mate Vincent Jackson. He is a conference newcomer but has put up good numbers in the past with San Diego. He was a big free agent buy for the Bucs but showed some focus and injury issues during his last season with the Chargers. All I have to say is bring it Bucs!

Hakeem Nicks – 90.5 – Last in our top 10 is another Giants receiver and North Carolina native Hakeem Nicks. Being the go to target in an Eli Manning offense might have been a cause for concern in the past but for some reason these days Manning is a little more ELIte. This is great news for Nocks despite the fact that he suffered a offseason injury but should be back to the Giants for the NFL opener.
